Timiskaming or “deep water” in Anishinaabemowin is much more than a simple territory. As the website of Tourisme Témiscamingue so rightly mentions, it is a place of “inexhaustible nature and human warmth”. More than 7500 lakes and rivers await nature lovers, not to mention forests as far as the eye can see. Furthermore, travelers will be greeted with warmth and kindness by Temiscamians.

Right now, the only thing you may have in mind is to take your ATV out of the garage, place it on your trailer and leave for an unforgettable adventure. But before you go, take the time to ask Témiscamingue ATV club‘s representatives some advice to plan your excursion and more importantly, to get your access rights. Otherwise your quest for adventure could abruptly stop…

You can safely leave your vehicle in one of the parking lots located on the Témiscamingue territory. For example, parking 319 at the Canadian Inn in Temiscaming and parking 320 at the Resto-dépanneur in Ville-Marie.

Things to See

If you take the local Témiscamingue ATV Club trail from Letang, which goes up to the Trans-Québec trail, you can stop at the Laniel Dam, located near the municipality of the same name. Take your time to admire the landscape as well as the murals under the Laniel bridge.

A little further north of the dam, Kipawa river’s Great Fall (near the Topping site) is worth the visit. Once the filming location of Silent Enemy by Burden Pictures in the 20’s, the area was later owned by Dan and Bob Topping, Yankees Stadium’s majority shareholders.

Please note that the Great Fall is only accessible via Route 101 and not the Trans-Québec Trail.

Pursue your journey to Gaboury, east of Ville-Marie. You can always stay at the Refuge #15 or take the local trail to the west and stop in Ville-Marie. In this city of heritage, art and entertainment, don’t miss Frère-Moffet House, Abitibi-Témiscamingue’s oldest residence (built in 1881) or have some good chocolate at Les Chocolats Martine!

These are only a few suggestions, of course, but Témiscamingue is a very large territory. The people in charge of the Club VTT Témiscamingue are the best people to properly inform you.

That said, have a good trip in Témiscamingue!
